Hypoglycemia
Symptoms of hypoglycemia:
- Feeling light-headed or dizzy while standing up
- Experiencing palpitations, tremors
- Nausea, drowsiness, nervousness and sweating
- Mental confusion
Types of hypoglycemia:
- Fasting hypoglycemia: Low blood sugar resulting from not having taken regular meals.
- Reactive hypoglycemia: When large amount of sugar is take, pancreas increase insulin secretion. This results in fall in blood sugar 90 minutes after eating. This is when person again craves something sweet. It can also be indicative of high risk of or presence of pancreatic tumour.
Recommendations:
- Take pitta-pacifying diet.
- Eat three regular meals and snack on some healthy things in between those meals.
- The regular diet should be consisting of protein and complex carbohydrates so that meals digest slowly, and blood sugar fluctuations are less.
- Quit smoking.
- Take nasya with 5 drops of brahmi ghee to help in dealing with symptoms of hypoglycemia.
- If experiencing drowsiness, tale some sweet juice like pomegranate juice or sweet ornange juice.
- Take 1 cup of licorice tea (1 cup hot water and 1 tsp of licorice root). Use only occasionally if you have hypertension.
- Steep ½ tsp of powder made by mixing brahmi, jatamamsi, shanka pushpi and licorice in equal proportions in 1 cup of hot water. Drink this tea after lunch and dinner.
- In case of reactive hypoglycemia, take ¼ tsp of shilajit and ¼ tsp of shardunika after lunch and dinner with water.
