Ayurvedic Cause of Asthma:
Increased Kapha dosha moves into the lungs, trachea, and bronchi.
Ayurvedic Treatment of Asthma:
Bring the Kapha lodged in the lungs and bronchi to the stomach from which it can then be eliminated.
Long-term preventive remedies for Asthma:
- Drink tea made by steeping 1 tsp of cinnamon and ¼ tsp of trikatu in 1 cup of boiling water twice a day. Add honey to it before drinking.
- Drink tea made by boiling ¼ tsp of licorice and ¼ tsp of ginger in water.
- Take ½ tsp of bay leaf and ¼ tsp of pippali with 1 tsp of honey, twice or thrice a day.
- Drink ⅓ cup of spinach juice with a pinch of pippali twice a day.
- Rub mustard oil on your chest for relief.
- Make a tea by steeping ¼ tsp of mixture of ground mustard seeds and pippali or black pepper in 1 cup of hot water. Add 1-2 tsp of honey to it. Drink this twice or thrice a day or take a sip of this every 15 min throughout the day.
- Mix 1 tsp of natural organic sugar in 1 tsp of brown mustard oil on empty stomach twice or thrice a day.
- Put 5-10 drops of warm ghee in your nostrils. This will be especially helpful if asthmatic wheezing is being caused by infection in sinuses and nose.
- Insert 7 cloves in a peeled banana and keep it overnight. Eat this banana and the cloves in the morning. Do not eat anything else for next 1 hour and then drink 1 cup of hot water with 1 tsp of honey. This will energize your lungs.
Remedies for immediate relief from Asthma:
- Take ¼ cup of onion juice with 1 tsp of honey and 1/8 tsp of black pepper for immediate relief of asthma.
- Take a mixture of ½ tsp sitopaladi, ½ tsp of punarnava, 1 pinch of pippali and a pinch of abrak bhasma with honey for prevention as well as for immediate relief.
- Make licorice tea by boiling 1 tsp of licorice root in a cup of water. Just before drinking add 5-10 drops of mahanarayan oil to it or add ½ tsp ghee to it. Take 1 sip of this tea every 5 to 10 minutes. Do not take this if you also have hypertension. This tea is effective for 72 hours after preparation. Drink the tea as soon as you feel slight discomfort. Do not wait till the discomfort increases.
Foods to Avoid for those suffering from Asthma:
- Most diary products
- Fermented foods
- Salted foods
- Anything that you think you might be allergic to (Some examples can be mushrooms, peanuts, walnuts, other nuts and yeast)

- Shoulder Stand
