Possible Causes of Dizziness:
- Excess vata
- Excess pitta
- Vertigo
- Inner ear or head injury
- Viral infection
- Ménière’s disease (Increased pressure in middle ear generates a feeling of vertigo)
- Insufficient oxygen in the room
- Motion sickness
- Low adrenal energy
- Low blood pressure
- Use of hypertensive drugs like beta blockers etc.
- Hypoglycemia
- Dehydration caused because of sweating
- Chronic constipation
Types of dizziness:
- Objective Dizziness: It feels like things around you are moving while you are quite stable. It is primarily caused by excess vata.
- Subjective Dizziness: It feels like you are in motion. It is primarily caused by excess pitta.
Recommendations:
- Focus on one stable point in the room. This helps by sending the message to the brain to calm the rajasic quality of vata dosha.
- If you are in a car and experience dizziness, focus on a distant object that is not moving.
- If suffering from motion sickness, take a ginger powder capsule and chew on a piece of candied ginger from time to time.
- Getting up slowly should be a regular practice of one feels dizzy on standing up too quickly.
- If you are pitta dominant and hypoglycemic, take some apple juice or any other sweet fruit juice in case of dizziness.
- Sprinkling cold water on face of someone who fainted is a quick and effective remedy.
- In case dehydration caused by sweating, drink more water.
- Breathe deeply
- Put your index finger in your ear and pull your ear upward, forward and downward.
- Chop up an onion and smell it forcefully till the time you tear up.
- Smelling sandalwood oil can be useful in case of pitta-induced dizziness.
- Take nasya with 3-5 drops of warm ghee. This will improve blood supply to the brain.
- Take ½ tp of triphla powder with cup full of warm water before bed.
- Two formualas for pitta related dizziness are:
- Take ½ tsp of mixture of brahmi, jatamamsi and saraswati in 1:1:¼ ratio thrice a day with water after food.
- Take ½ tsp of mixture of shatavari, jatamamsi and kama dudha in 1:1:2 ratio twice a day with wam water after food.
