Possible Causes of Eye Irritation:
- Low alochaka pitta
- Excess vata
- Excess pitta in stomach
- Stagnant pitta in the liver
- Being on screen for a long time
- High air pollution
- Dryness of conjunctiva
Recommendations:
- Take a break every hour or two to give your eyes a rest. Focus on a distant object for a minute when doing a close-up work for a long period of time.
- Take water and add 5 drops of rose water to it and rinse your eyes with it. Make sure that it is neither too hot nor too cold.
- In the morning, wash your face, fill your mouth with cool water and while holding it in mouth, splash your eyes with water.
- Simply wash your eyes with water whenever you feel eye irritation.
- Put one drop of pure castor oil in each eye before bed.
- Rub castor oil on the soles of your feet.
- In case of bloodshot eyes, drink a cup of fresh orange juice with ½ tsp of natural sugar and a pinch of cinnamon.
Recommendations for Pitta-dominant people or Pitta specific issues:
Along with other remedies, following things can be done in case of Pitta-dominant people or if one figures out that high Pitta is the cause of their eye irritation:
- Make triphla tea by boiling 1 tsp of triphla in water for 3 minutes. Seive it and let it cool. Wash your eyes with this.
- Apply collyrium made with castor oil and natural camphor.
- Apply cotton balls or gauge dipped in goat's milk over your closed eyes.
In case high pitta has caused acidity and the eye irritation, try doing these:
- Take ½ tsp of shatavari, a pinch of shanka bhasma with warm water twice a day for 2 weeks.
- Take 2 tsp of aloe vera gel thrice a day.
- Take ½ tsp of mixture of shanka pushpi and jatamamsi in equal proportions twice a day for 2 weeks.

- Eye Exercises
- Light a ghee lamp at 2-3 feet distance from you. Stare at the flame without blinking. Do not do this with your glasses or lenses on.
