Ayurvedic explanation of the cause:
Increased Kapha Dosha
Causes and triggers:
- Consumption of Kapha increasing foods
- Sensitivity to pollen, dust, ragweed, cat hair etc.
- Sensitivity to cold temperatures
- Dryness in the atmosphere
- Deviated septum
Recommendations:
- Add ginger, ajwain and turmeric to water and boil. Turn off the stove, cover your head with the towel and inhale the steam.
- Steam can also be taken with plain water or with ginger boiled in water.
- Rub menthol on forehead and in the sinus.
- Place a few drops of eucalyptus oil in the nose. Use only eucalyptus oil diluted with sesame oil and not the pure eucalyptus oil.
- Chop some onion and sniff it. It will cause sneezing and provide relief from nasal crust.
- Lubricate the nostrils with brahmi ghee or saline solution.
- Eat some spicy food.
- Use a hot water humidifier.
- Take Vitamin C 1 gm twice a day.
- Take 1 tsp of amalaki at bedtime with warm water. Do not take if you are already taking triphla.
- Take zinc 60 mg.
