Features of Bengal Gram:
- It reduces fever.
- It is a complexion promoter and enhances the fairness.
- It is constipating.
Varieties of Bengal Gram:
- Unripe Bengal Gram: Cold potency, astringent, Kapha aggravating, Pitta pacifying, brings a sense of fullness, useful in case of burning sensation and in case of excessive thirst. It is useful in obesity and is also a semen enhancer.
- Roasted Bengal Gram: Extremely dry, Aggravates Vata and Pitta. It is strength promoting.
- Soup of Bengal Gram: That is Bengal gram boiled in water - Alleviates Pitta and Kapha, causes irritation due to excess secretion of digestove juices in the gut.
- Black Bengal Gram: Cold potency, sweet taste, pacifies Pitta. It treats cough, pitta related diarrhoea, imparts strength and is rejuvenating.
- White Bengal Gram: Cold potency, sweet taste, heavy, aggravates Vata, pacifies Pitta. It promotes strength.
